Over the whole study period coral cover increased significantly in the unaffected Madracis quadrats. M. mirabilis grew significantly more slowly (alizarin method, extension of tips of branches) after fragmentation. No data were available for the Acropora fragments, but growth was relatively slow in the control quadrats of all experimental species.
